Challenging Tomorrow’s Leaders
Founded in Hostos Community College in 1996, the Proyecto Access Science and Technology Entry Program seeks to identify historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged secondary school students with the interest and potential for careers in STEM, or other health-related areas, and reinforce these students in pursuit of these fields. Proyecto Access is one of 44 CSTEP Programs, and 50 STEP Programs operating in New York State, working hard to support and empower scholars as they enter their industries.
Why Join Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math fields?
“In the 21st century, scientific and technological innovations have become increasingly important as we face the benefits and challenges of both globalization and a knowledge-based economy. To succeed in this new information-based and highly technological society, students need to develop their capabilities in STEM to levels much beyond what was considered acceptable in the past.”

“We will always have STEM with us. Some things will drop out of the public eye and
will go away, but there will always be Science, Engineering, and Technology. And
there will always, always be Mathematics.”
