INFORMATION ON THE STEP PROGRAM

STEP provides academic enrichment in science and mathematics content areas. Projects consist of academic year and summer components including:

  • Core subject instruction/Regents exam preparation
  • Supervised practical training
  • Supervised research training
  • College admissions counseling
  • Standardized tests preparation
  • Career awareness/development activities

In order to qualify for the summer program you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: 
    • Have an 85 and above average in all classes
  • ETHNICITY: 
    • African-American
    • Hispanic/Latino
    • American Indian
    • Alaskan native
  • INCOME: 
    • Economically disadvantaged
  • Educational Status: 
    • 2 recommendation letters (Math and Science teachers)
    • A recent copy of your report card

  • CSTEP provides academic enrichment and research experience in STEM content areas.
  • Projects consist of academic year and summer components including:
    • Supervised training in research methods
    • Graduate/professional school admissions preparation
    • Standardized tests preparation
    • Academic and career development activities

CSTEP ELIGIBILITY

In order to be considered and accepted into the CSTEP program, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • ETHNICITY: 
    • African-American
    • Hispanic/Latino
    • American Indian
    • Alaskan native
  • STATUS: 
    • New York State Resident (12 months in NYS) or Citizen
  • INCOME: 
    • Low income students (determined by the financial aid office)
  • Educational Status: 
    • Full-time with a GPA of 2.5 (transcript required)
    • Must be interested in the STEM disciplines
  • What CSTEP Expects:
    • Meet with your mentor at least twice a month
    • Actively participate in the planned seminars and activities
    • Conduct Research/internship if qualified
